The 3rd Annual DBA Family Gathering promises to be a great event. A new mission opportunity has been added to the schedule of events. Heaven Sent Ministries will provide a hands-on mission project called Hunger Challenge. It is a large food-packaging event, held on-site where volunteers come together in a short period of time to assemble packages of dehydrated food products to send overseas to starving children and families.
Participants of all ages will be asked to sign up for 30-minute slots to package meals. These packages will then be placed in boxes and loaded on pallets. Once the project is finished, the food is then shipped to a third world country for distribution by local Christians to people in need. The food that we package will be sent to believers who will distribute the meal packets to Kurdish refugees. As they minister to their physical needs, the Gospel will be shared with them.
This is a great opportunity for the whole family to participate. It is a project that has the potential to make a physical and spiritual difference in a family’s life.
To be able to pack as many meals as possible, we need your help. A box contains 36 packages and will provide 216 meals. The cost per box is $65. We would like to invite Sunday School classes, small groups, churches and individuals to consider sponsoring a box of meals. This will help us to buy the necessary materials and pay for shipping. If interested in providing funds for this project, checks can be made payable to Denton Baptist Association and sent to 1406 N. Corinth, Ste. 408, Corinth, TX 76208. Please include Hunger Challenge in the memo. To read more about this ministry go to: www.hsminc.org/Upcoming-Hunger-Challenge-events.html or www.hsminc.org.
Last year’s Family Gathering provided a variety of music from country to rap. Music will also be a welcome part of this year’s event, but will focus on the music from different parts of the world. DBA is fortunate to have people groups from all over the world worshipping in Denton County. At the time of this writing the following churches have been invited to share music from their country: Denton Korean Baptist Church will sing and play in their language; Chin Evangelical Baptist Church will be performing a traditional dance called the bamboo dance. It is a beautiful experience and one that you will not want to miss.
Please plan to join us at Camp Copass on Sunday, October 2. Activities begin at 3:00 PM and last until 6:00 PM. You will be able to enjoy the Camp Copass facilities which include putt-putt golf, basketball, face painting for the children and great music. Youth groups will be able to participate in a bubble soccer tournament. Booths will be provided by many of our local ministries. As you view these displays, it is our hope you will be inspired to get involved or begin a similar ministry in your local church or community. Supper will be served at 5:00, complete with hamburgers and hot dogs.
The past 2 years have been a great success, and with your help and participation this year will be even better.
