As we step into the promising horizon of 2026, my heart brims with excitement for the myriad of opportunities it holds. With the determined spirit of the Energizer Bunny, I have already started mapping out our DBA events and celebrations — birthdays, anniversaries, Hallmark holidays, Christmas, and even a well-loved personal vacation.

Some might view my early planning as absurd or even unnecessary. Still, I am reminded of the poignant wisdom found in the Psalms and echoed by the Apostle James: “Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” (James 4:14). Life is a fleeting gift. This precious breath can disappear in an instant. This truth calls us to seize every moment with intention and joy, transforming each occasion into a celebration that reflects the magnificent journey God has intricately designed for us.

I hold a special admiration for the heartfelt traditions kept alive by my dear friends, Morgan and Cathy Malone. Their Pumpkin Palooza event shines brightly in my mind, especially this year, as a couple of their enthusiastic grandkids stepped in to help Cathy orchestrate the festivities. This is a beautiful reminder that joy multiplies when shared with loved ones and when we pass down our cherished traditions to the next generation.

The concept of the modified measuring stick, presented by author Bob Goff, resonates profoundly within me. He invites us to envision our potential lifespan represented by an 80-85-inch measuring stick, adjusted according to our current age. As I approach my 50th year, I estimate I have about 30-35 years left — perhaps it will end up a few inches off due to my secret fondness for ice cream and chips!

Ultimately, this leads to a crucial question: What does God desire me to accomplish for His Kingdom this year, and in the remaining days He has graciously given me? Every day is a precious gift, an opportunity to nurture our divine purpose. As we embark on this journey, I hope we can draw inspiration from Hebrews 12:1-2, which encourages us to run with perseverance the race marked out for us, casting aside everything that hinders and fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.

As we begin our work this year, my prayer is that we all move forward with a renewed sense of purpose and passion for His Kingdom. Let us embrace each moment, making the most of our time to fulfill the unique calling upon our lives. Together, may we shine brightly as beacons of His love and grace, transforming our celebrations into powerful testimonies of His goodness.
