This past week, while teaching students at Super Summer Camp who had just graduated from high school, I was reminded of the need for us to develop our leadership abilities. I shared with them how the brain learns through a process known as neuroplasticity. We also looked at Romans 12:1,2, where it states, “do not be conformed any longer to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” These verses emphasize that there are two ways: a new way and an old way. The new way is experienced through the transforming power of Jesus Christ. Paul calls this the renewing of our minds, which speaks to the need for learning and implementing new Biblical strategies. We all need to be in the process of learning, regardless of our position in the local church.

One of the great ways we can do that is by attending the Denton Baptist Associational Leadership Training Conference on Saturday, August 23, at First Denton. Whether we are new to faith in Christ or seasoned, classes are offered that will sharpen and renew our minds.

We will offer classes for those who work with individuals of all ages, including preschool workers, children’s workers, youth workers, and adult workers. In each of the three breakouts, workers will get to choose from classes on such subjects as:

 Impact of the Digital Age on Child Development
 Understanding the Kids We Teach
 Navigating Hard Conversations with Youth
 Relational Student Ministry
 The Effects of Screen Time on Young Children
 Creating a Sticky Sunday School for Adults
 Volunteer Recruitment Principles
 4 Keys to Connecting People to a Home Group

Each of these classes provides an opportunity to learn new ways to present the timeless truth of the gospel to each age group.

We will offer special emphasis breakouts – personal evangelism, deacon training, creating a staff handbook, social media promotion, and conflict resolution. Classes on developing men’s and women’s ministries will be provided, as well as insight into caring for those dealing with grief, special needs issues for children, dementia patients, and recovery ministry.

The facilitators for our seminars are practitioners. They work in local churches, as well as with the Southern Baptist Convention of Texas and the Texas Baptist Convention. They are experts in the fields.

Our association has partnered with the conventions to offer affordable training to you and your churches. The cost is $15 per person or $300 per church. We hope that you and your church will take time out on Saturday, August 23, from 8:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. to have your minds stretched and renewed as you prepare to teach and work in your church this fall.
