Like most busy households, we eagerly put up our Christmas tree and decorated it a tad early—35 days before Christmas. For us, setting up the tree marks the beginning of the joyous Christmas season. This year, we’re bubbling with excitement over many things: celebrating our first Christmas as the Bakers, spending time with my mom and other family members, cherishing dear friends, and delighting in a Tex-Mex-Filipino Fusion Christmas Eve dinner (yes, you read that right!).
As the quintessential queen of planning, I’ve mapped out our holiday schedule all the way to New Year’s Day, complete with a detailed menu that would make Mrs. Santa jealous. The only item still on my to-do list is coordinating our family’s matching outfits, which might require a shopping spree that rivals Black Friday! I’m only half-joking about those matching outfits, but Steve said if I can pull it off, I should go for it — so brace yourself for some serious festive fashion!
As I reflect on our plans this past week, the Holy Spirit impressed upon me to center my heart on the true essence of this season. I am reminded to keep the miraculous gift of His birth and the profound love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, top of mind. In every celebration, my prayer is that we don’t lose sight of why we rejoice: He came to save us all.
Isaiah 9:6 (NIV) states, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
I hope this profound truth not only inspires us but also compels us to actively share His love and light during this meaningful season. It is a time when many yearn for hope and reassurance, and we have the opportunity to reach out to those longing to hear the transformative message of the gospel of Jesus. I pray that we can be bearers of good news, as we ought to be, bringing comfort and encouragement to those who are in need.
Many of us are also dedicated laborers serving our Lord and Savior. As we enter Christmas, the season can often feel busier and more overwhelming than any other time of the year. I want to take a moment to reflect on this special calling. May the spirit of Christmas inspire you to be a source of light and hope for those around you. I pray that this season will remind you of the joy that comes from serving others and spreading love.
The symbol of Christmas embodies hope and joy, reminding us that no matter our journey or the trials we face, there is always light in the darkness. This season calls us to embrace the hope that His birth brings, igniting joy in our hearts and extending it to those around us. My prayer is that you will feel the joy this Christmas and beyond. Merry Christmas!
