Cooperation Allows for Mission Work to Be Accomplished
Morgan Malone

This past week I had the opportunity to represent our Denton Baptist Associational
churches by participating in the commissioning of one of our pastors and his wife as
foreign missionaries. Peter and Anise Won will be serving with our Southern Baptist
Convention’s International Mission Board (IMB) in the Philippines.

Peter and Anise came to this area over three years ago. They sensed that God wanted
them to plant a church in Frisco to reach Korean-speaking people. They went through a
SEND Network assessment and cohort residency training provided by Collin Baptist
Association. SEND Network and our association partnered with them to start New Life
Vision Church in Frisco. Since that time, they have been meeting at one of our DBA
churches, New Life Community Church in Frisco.

As part of the service on Sunday, July 12, Peter shared with us about his call to being a
missionary. He shared about going to Kazakhstan in the early 2000’s on a mission trip.
While there, their God began to stir his heart for foreign missions. He came back from
that trip and shared with a mentor about his desire to be a foreign missionary. His
spiritual leader suggested that he needed more ministry experience before embarking
on that journey. That led him to come to America to study and work in local Korean
churches in the US. This past year, Peter and Anise had the opportunity to go on
another mission trip to Africa. Through that experience, God revealed to him once again
that He was calling him to missions. Peter and Anise prayed about this desire. Ultimately, they applied through the IMB to become missionaries and were appointed at
the Southern Baptist Convention in Orlando this past June.

Peter and Anise will be leaving in August. They will head to Richmond, Virginia for
International training with the IMB. From there, they will fly to Cebu Island in the
Philippines. They will learn the language and culture of the area. While doing this, they
will work with existing missionaries on the field. Ultimately, they will live in a specific
area with a particular target group of people in the beautiful island- filled country of the
Philippines.

Have you ever thought about being a missionary? Has God been stirring your heart
about serving Him in another country?. If so, share that with your church leadership.
Consider going on a foreign mission trip like Peter and Anise. Fill out an interest form on
the IMB website.

Please pray for Peter and Anise Won as they prepare, go, learn, live, and follow God’s
call to reach the people of the Philippines with the gospel.

Please pray also for New Life Vision Church as they welcome a new Pastor IIwhan
Jung. Pastor Jung has been serving at Denton Korean Church while attending
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Please pray to the Lord of the Harvest that He will send out others who sense a call to
missions.
