Can You Help Us?
Morgan Malone

The above picture was taken at McNatt Lake of a joint baptism that Antioch Baptist Church
and Mustang Baptist Church held on the north end of the county.

Can you help us by providing pictures like the one above of people in your church? We want to use these pictorial documents to highlight the 140 years of the churches that compose the Denton Baptist Association. These historical photos will help us to display significant parts of the Denton Baptist Association’s background.

As I have mentioned before, our association was organized in 1886 in the city of Denton. Eighteen churches came from the cities of Aubrey, Little Elm, Hickory Creek, Slidell, Lewisville, New Hope, Krum, Drop, Mustang, Roanoke, Shiloh, Stony, and Pilot Point. These churches had elected messengers whose responsibility, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, was to vote either for the establishment of a County Association or not. The result was that those who were present voted to create Denton County Baptist
Association. They also adopted a Constitution and Bylaws. They then set aside October 1, 1886, as the date for their first annual meeting.

Since those humble beginnings in 1886, the association has grown to 106 churches. Our most recent church to join our association is a Spanish-speaking church in Denton called Iglesia Baptista Eben Nezer. Our newest addition affirms the multicultural nature of our association, which represents the makeup of our county.

This theme will be highlighted at our 140th celebration on Thursday, October 29 th from 6:30-8:00 at Camp Copass. At this gathering, we will pursue the theme of “Connecting All People to God.” Our celebration will highlight the different ethnicities and languages of our association.

I hope you will make plans now to attend this special night. Secondly, as I mentioned earlier, I hope you will send us pictures of your church people getting baptized, gathering for fellowship, worship and or sharing the gospel. Feel free to drop these off at the office, or you can send them via email to Wanda Freeman, our Executive Assistant (wanda@dentonbaptist.org). We hope to display these items at our gathering.
