Hebrews 10:24 says, “And let us consider how to spur one on to love and good deeds (or works).” One of the ways Associations fulfill this verse on a larger scale occurs when one church encourages another church toward love and good deeds. This took place at the annual Leadership Training Conference. We had 26 churches that came to learn how to be more effective small group leaders. 14 speakers led 28 Breakouts to 292 attendees. You could sense the energy in the building as people were given tools to enhance their leadership opportunities. Conversations among attendees were lively, engaging, and encouraging. It was an inspiring event!
Another event planned that will encourage love and good deeds is the annual DBA Serve Together mission project on Sunday, October 2. This is an opportunity for people from age 3 to infinity to gather around tables to pack bags of rice. On each table will be containers of rice, nutrients, flavoring, and clear plastic bags. An assembly line of 10 people, each wearing gloves and a hair net, will begin the process. Can you picture it? A 5-year-old child scoops the rice and pours it into a bag. It is then passed to a 15-year-old student to add the seasoning. Next, it is given to a 40-year-old mom who weighs it, then passes it on to a 70-year-old who stacks it. Finally, a 35-year-old places the packets of food into a box & seals it. It is a beautiful site to see various age groups from over 20 churches working together to address one of humanity’s greatest needs.
Over the years the food we packed has been shipped all over the world. Following a devastating hurricane, boxes of rice were shipped to the Dominican Republic. One year the food we packed was sent to the country of South Sudan where crops had been destroyed because of civil war. This year we are told that our food will either go to South Sudan or to Poland to help feed Ukrainian refugees. The decision on where the food goes will be made by Heaven Sent Ministries. This is the organization with whom we partner. They purchase the food, bags, sealers, boxes, gloves, and hairnets for the packing event. They also locate shipping containers and oversee the transport of food. They have contacts in the countries where the food will be received and distributed. Each organization makes it a priority to share the gospel with those receiving the food.
