Last month, I shared the exhilarating journey of rediscovering my lost engagement ring — a radiant symbol of love and hope that connects the hearts of two souls. With that ring back on my finger, my fiancé, Steve, and I are now in the midst of planning our dream wedding. We envision a beautiful ceremony filled with love and laughter, and we eagerly anticipate the adventures that await us as a married couple. Yet, amid this whirlwind of excitement, I couldn’t shake a more profound truth: sometimes, happiness feels just out of reach, hidden behind the unexpected challenges life throws our way.

Not long ago, life took an unexpected turn that jolted my perspective. Bursting with pride, I introduced Steve to my family, dreaming of warm embraces and joyful laughter welcoming us. Instead, the atmosphere turned icy when a family member expressed their unwillingness to meet both of us. The chilling reception hung heavy like a storm cloud, piercing through my joy and anticipation. Confusion also washed over me. I was racing to understand: what had we done to deserve such a rejection? This long-awaited joyous moment faded into a scene of profound embarrassment and disappointment. The experience stung.

Yet beneath that initial shock lay a deeper wound — one of utter rejection that gnawed at my spirit. Even after coming home from that visit, I carried the weight of that hurt like a shadow, dulling the brilliance of my joy and leaving me feeling dejected. However, in a moment of quiet reflection, God whispered a profound truth to my heart: if one person can choose to reject me, have I considered that countless others turn away from Him daily? Moreover, have I thought about how, in the face of that rejection, He continues to love us fiercely and selflessly, offering His one and only Son as proof of that love (John 3:16)?

With that revelation, the chains of hurt and pain began to loosen. I realized I needed to nail my anguish to the cross, where it truly belonged— a decision I should have made weeks ago. I gained a clearer sense of perspective: my circumstances haven’t changed — my life is a precious gift, bought with the unimaginable love of Christ. I am His cherished child, and my purpose remains steadfast.

What lies ahead for my relationship with that family member is uncertain, and I can only hope and pray for a different future. But one thing is clear: I have complete faith in our Good Shepherd, who leaves the ninety-nine to find the one who is lost (Matthew 18:12).

This journey has opened my eyes to a powerful truth: Christ’s infinite love conquers rejection, and the acceptance of others does not determine my worth. As I look forward to the rest of 2025, I see countless opportunities for love, hope, and joy. I choose to embrace each moment with an open heart, knowing that I am loved unconditionally by Him.
