Exciting things are happening at the Baptist Student Ministry at the University of North Texas! In the Fall semester, we invested heavily in developing new leaders through our Leaders in Training program. Interested students committed to a six-week program focused on discipleship, evangelism, and learning spiritual disciplines. We added 14 new students to our leadership team and placed them on ministry teams to engage the campus in new ways. We are thrilled to see what God has in store for our students as they grow in their faith and leadership abilities.

One of our newest outreach ministries this semester is Coffee Corner. On Thursday mornings, a team of students go out to the bus stop on campus and hand out muffins, hot chocolate, and coffee to students as they walk by. Through this ministry, our students engage their peers and form relationships with them. In addition to giving away free breakfast, our students take their prayer requests and either pray over them at the table or write down their requests to pray over later as a team.

God has placed a burden in our students’ hearts for the international community on campus. Each week we serve about 200 students at lunch with the vast majority being from South Asia. One of our new leaders, Andrew, came up with the idea to have Chai Time on Friday afternoons for American and Indian students to share food and culture. Our goal is to eventually add a Discovery Bible study as an option for students to investigate Christianity and the Bible. There is such potential to reach the nations at UNT!

The Spring semester also means BSM missions. The BSM is partnering with a local church to take a team to South Padre Island, TX to share the gospel with Spring Breakers through a ministry called Beach Reach. In preparation, students gather weekly to learn how to share the gospel, their testimonies, and the love of Christ through free van rides, pancake breakfasts, and beach evangelism.  Beach Reach always affects our students with a renewed heart for evangelism and reaching the campus. Once the semester ends, we are sending a team back to Provo, UT to engage the city and university campuses. Provo is one of the nine Reach the Campus, Reach the World locations for Texas BSM. Student mobilization continues to be a vital part of BSM culture as we prepare to launch students into the world after graduation.

We are excited about the things God is doing in the UNT BSM. It is not possible without the prayer support from churches. Please pray for us!

  • Pray for our student leaders as they seek new ways to engage non-believing students on campus.
  • Pray for our student missionaries as they prepare to serve over Spring Break and May in South Padre Island, TX, and Provo, UT.
  • Pray that God would move on our campus, bringing repentance and renewal to our community.
