Over the past year, the UNT BSM has embraced a purposeful approach to evangelism and the development of disciple-makers. As part of this mission, we proudly launched Jove: Freshmen Gathering, a vibrant community designed to welcome first-year students, ground them in faith, and empower them to share the Gospel. It is a space where students can forge genuine relationships, delve into the teachings of Jesus, and learn how to make a meaningful impact on campus and beyond through their faith.
This spring, our freshman students initiated a dorm outreach called ‘Take Out the Trash.’ They went door-to-door, offering to take out students’ trash and asking if they could pray for them. One of our groups experienced a divine appointment when they met a student named Luna. Although Luna was not a believer, she mentioned that her roommate could benefit from prayer regarding a recently ended relationship.
The following day, Luna requested a meeting with our staff. Our Associate Director arranged the meeting and invited Chloe, a freshman involved in Jove who lives on Luna’s hall, to join them. Chloe and the staff met with Luna and shared the Gospel. When asked if she had heard the Gospel, Luna replied, “No, I haven’t. But I do have a relationship with God.” As the staff member asked clarifying questions, Luna revealed how the dorm outreach had touched her life.
She recognized that what she was missing in her life was a relationship with God. With her roommate, who had a church background, they prayed to receive Christ in their dorm room despite never having heard the Gospel! Chloe was able to gift Luna her first Bible, and they have been exploring the book of John together during their weekly discipleship meetings. God is actively at work, and we are privileged to join Him in the incredible journey He is already undertaking.
